The Blue Economy concept will continuously thrive in Africa, given the importance of Africa’s Maritime Domain (AMD) for job and wealth creation. Ahead of the United Nations Oceans Conference and High Level Political Forum at New York in June and July 2017 respectively, the UN Major Group for Children and Youths Oceans/SDG14 will be organizing an online Pre-consultation to articulate issues within the region. According to the African Union Agenda on Oceans, “Africa’s Blue/ocean economy, which is three times the size of its landmass, shall be a major contributor to continental transformation and growth”. In line with our efforts towards achieving the SDG14 and Agenda 2063 of the African Union on Blue Economy and life below the Sea, we shall, during the pre-consultation, focus on the following:
- Knowledge sharing on marine and aquatic biotechnology in West and Central Africa.
- The state of Africa’s shipping industry.
- Concept of Blue Economy in the two African regions
- Development of sea, river and lake transport
- Sustainable fishing
- Ocean Pollution and Acidification
