THEIR IDEALS

They believe that independent media and responsible journalism are essential worldwide. Given Germany’s history, they believe that people should be able to freely express their views and have access to independent sources of information, which they consider as an important prerequisite for peace and democracy.

THE MEETING

The meeting focused on the DW Akademie’s proposed project in Nigeria (2018). The unfolding program focuses on youth and the media (radio and digital). Discussions were on needs and feasibility including collecting information about the role of the Nigerian media in a conflictive and fragile context, especially in North-Eastern Nigeria, sharing how young people use media, what their information needs are and how they could have a more proactive role in transforming local realities, and collaboration opportunities.
Our meeting was concluded with several keynotes on delivering effective media training and collaboration to improve media (digital and radio) reach with focus on digital media, conflict-sensitive reporting, youth media, sustainable media (business) models, media and information Literacy, community media, media councils, self-regulation, media legislation, media & IDPs among others.
