As the year ends, it is a ritual to reflect on the year’s accomplishment, challenges, and targets. For us in UNESCO Youth Forum Nigeria, it has been a great year because working with progressive-minded youths gave the forum new ideas and uncommon accomplishments! This has given new insights for 2017 and, bolster the forums’ close relationship with the Nigerian government and concerned MDAs.
The Federal Government has also shown keen interest and commitment in the development of the Nigerian youths’ in 2016. These commitments are emphasised in some of the government led projects among others, the N-Power program, and youth empowerment through renewable and sustainable energy entrepreneurial training by the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (OSSAP-SDGs).
The youths have shown numerous commitment as global citizens through active engagement in community development, global peace, and sustainability of the world. The preservation of planet earth and its fair ecological system remains an obligation of the present generation to the next.
We developed the Youth Civic Engagement Portal (YCE Portal) on the UNESCO Youth Forum Nigeria website to recognise youths’ contributions to community development through civic engagement and, serve as a social knowledge incubator to harness ideas and resources through sharing, mentoring and collaboration amongst youths’. We hope youth contributions to the portal would provide support and create collaboration opportunities with governmental, non-governmental and International Development Partners with the youths who are actively engaging in various means to achieve a sustainable development & peace.
The year 2017 has been designated the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development by the United Nations. International tourism accounts for one in every 11 jobs in the world, moving more than one billion people each year. For many, the tourism sector represents a vital opportunity for a better life.
In anticipation for a youth inclusive governance in the coming year, we urge the youth to build their capacity to solve the challenges with a comprehensive approach.
Compliment of the Season!!
